SURPRISE CASSEROLE

1 ( 2-pound ) sirloin tip or round stead, cubed

2 Tablespoon onion, minced

1 cup butter or margarine

1 ( 3-oz) can whole mushrooms

1 bay leaf

2 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce

2 cup cooked wide noodles

1/2 cup evaporated milk

1/2 cup water

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup Cheddar cheese

1 cup croutons

2 Tablespoon pimento strips

  Saute meat and onion in 1 Tablespoon butter until lightly browned. Add liquid from mushrooms, bay leaf and Worcestershire sauce. Cover and simmer gently 30 minutes or until meat is tender. Remove bay leaf. In a greased 1 1/2 quart casserole, combine meat with pan juice, mushrooms, noodles, remaining butter, milk , water and salt. Sprinkle with grated cheese and croutons. Bake at 325 F. degrees for 1 hour. Garnish with pimiento strips.

YIELD:  4-6 servings
