Stir -Fry Beef with Peppers
This is another recipe from the St Mary's Sisterhood of St Elias Eastern Orthodox Church from Michigan.
I thought I would dive deeper into this cookbook..lot of interesting recipes...and yummy as well, at least the ones I've tried so far...
Stir-Fry Beef with Peppers

1 cup sliced mushrooms * 1/4 teaspoon five-spice powder
1 pound round steak-sliced 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
diagonally 1/2 cup chicken broth
2 small yellow onions 2 Tablespoon soy sauce
1 green pepper 2 Tablespoon dry white wine
1 red pepper ( optional) 1 teaspoon sesame oil or walnut oil
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 1/2 -3 Tablespoon vegetable oil
Cut onions into wedges. Remove seeds from the peppers and cut peppers in thin slices.
Heat vegetable oil in wok ( or frying pan) over high heat. Add garlic and 5 spice powder. Stir -fry 15 seconds. Add meat. Stir-fry until meat is brown, about 5 minutes. Add onions, stir-fry 2 minutes. Add mushrooms and peppers. Stir-fry until peppers are crisp-tender. Combine all remaining ingredients. Pour mixture over meat-vegetable mixture. Cook and stir until liquid boils and thickens.
Serves 4 . Serve over rice, noodles.
Any variety of vegetables may be used in this recipe ; snow peas, broccoli ( par boil), bean sprouts , celery, etc.
* substitute Cinnamon and Ground Cloves for the 5 spice powder...
