Birthday Cake Pie

 Since soon it will be my birthday, Why not a birthday cake pie? ..So I made two different versions of this recipe...the original recipe I found and a chocolate version...the Chocolate version is delicious ... What will you need :   a pie dish  a golden oreo crust for the original recipe or a chocolate Cookie crust for Chocolate one 1 package vanilla pudding , or 1 package of chocolate pudding for chocolate 1 1/2 cups milk  1/4 cup yellow cake mix ( or use a chocolate cake mix for chocolate version) 1 - 8 oz container of cool whip 1 cup sprinkles or Chocolate chips for the chocolate version   Make Crust.  Whisk pudding mix with milk until smooth. Whisk in cake mix, fold in half of cool whip then fold in half of whipped topping. Fold in 1/2 the sprinkles ( or chocolate chips). Place pudding cake mixture into prepared crust. , top with remaining whipped topping.  Before serving sprinkle some sprinkles on top unless making chocolate version then sprinkle chocolate chips on top.

Cranberry-Cherry Pie

 This recipe is from the Havencroft school cookbook... What your will need:  preheat 400 degree oven  Filling 1 ( 19 oz) can cherry pie filling 1 14 oz can whole cranberry sauce 1/4 cup sugar 3 Tablespoons quick cooking tapioca 1 teaspoon lemon juice 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon 2 Tablespoon butter  Milk Pastry;  2 cup sifted cake pastry flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup crisco 4 Tablespoon water  Filling; Combine all but butter and milk.; let stand 15 minutes Pastry; Combine flour and salt. ; cut in crisco with pastry blender ( or 2 knifes) until mixture is uniform ( should be fairly course) Sprinkle with water, a Tablespoon at a time. Toss lightly with fork. Work into firm ball; roll out half for bottom crust. half for lattice strips Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a 9 inch pie plate with half of pastry. ; add filling. Dot with butter . Place lattice strips over filling. seal and flute edge. Brush lattice top with milk. Bake 40 -50 minutes or till crust is golden brown. Cover edge of crust af

Cookie or Graham cracker pie Crust

 Here's a simple way to make either a Graham Cracker or cookie crust What you will need:  Cookies or graham crackers  1 1/2 cups Crumbs 3 Tablespoon sugar 1/3 cup melted butter  preheat oven to 350 degrees .Blend ingredients in 9 inch pie plate. Press firmly in an even layer against bottom  and sides of pie pan. Bake for 10 minutes.

Prickly Pear Syrup

 Here's a canning recipe using the prickly pear cactus , at least the fruit. I have never made this before .  What you will need :  A way to burn off thorns a pot to put prickly pears in a knife cheesecloth 7 cups sugar jars waterbath canner    First thing you need to do is to burn off the thorns off the fruit ( prickly pears). cut them in half and put in pan. Add about 2-3 cups of water. bring this to a boil, until fruit is softened. strain fruit then put juice in pot and add sugar and bring to a boil while stirring to dissolve sugar. boil for about 2 minutes and then put in jars. Wipe rims of jars off and put canning flats and rings on ...finger tight. ...put in water bath can and process for 10 minutes

Piccalilli

Its the end of the summer growing season and you have tons of green tomatoes and don't know what to do with them...This recipe I remember my Great Grandma and grandma making with those tomatoes. What will you need:  A big stock pot or a big bowl 4 quarts chopped, peeled, cored green tomatoes  ( or just put in food processor and chop up) 2 quarts chopped cabbage ( my grandma's always grated theirs) 2 cups chopped sweet peppers 1 cup chopped onion  1/2 cup canning salt 1 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 Tablespoons mustard seed 1 Tablespoon celery seed 1 Tablespoon prepared horseradish ( I left this out) 4 1/2 cup vinegar Now lets make it:       Combine vegetables in a large bowl. Sprinkle salt over vegetables and mix thoroughly; let stand 3-4 hours. Drain ;rinse and drain thoroughly. Combine sugar, spices and vinegar in a large stock pot. Simmer 15 minutes. Add vegetables and bring to a boil. Pack hot relish into hot jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace. Remove air bubbles. Adjust 2 piece caps

Oatmeal Pie

 Here's another pie recipe of a different flavor...This recipe is from a 1978 Cookbook What will you need : 1 unbaked pie shell 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup dark syrup 2 eggs 1 stick oleo ( Butter) 1/2 cup oatmeal 1/2 cup coconut 1/2 cup milk   Now lets make it    Melt butter. Mix in sugar and syrup. Beat eggs and mix in other ingredients. Pour into unbaked pie crust. Bake at 410 degrees for 10 minutes ; turn oven down to 350 degrees and finish baking. I haven't tasted this pie yet...,but I will soon...

Green Tomato Pie

 Yup, you read the title to this blog, or rather the recipe for today...I have 3 small bowls of green tomatoes , just had to grab them before the first frost of the season...What am I am going to make with all these green tomatoes.?..First off Green Tomato pie What Will you need:  A unbaked pie crust 4 cups chopped green tomatoes 3 apples sliced 1 /2 cup raisins 2 Tablespoons vinegar 5 Tablespoons flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 1/4 cup sugar     Now lets make this pie:   Mix together green tomatoes, apples, raisins and vinegar. ...then add dry ingredients. Pour into a 9 inch -inch unbaked pie crust. Bake 20 minutes at 450 degrees and 40 minutes at 350 degrees. This pie tastes similar to raisin pie... This recipe is 1978 Cookbook.

Chili-Cheese Dip

 This recipe is from Gooseberry patch slow cooker  cookbook of ?  This recipe would great on anything just about. What you will Need :   A small slow cooker  1 1/2 pounds ground beef, browned and drained 2 ( 10 oz ) cans tomatoes with chilies ( I used 1 pint of home made) 1 (1 /4 ) oz chili seasoning mix  32 oz package pasteurized process cheese spread, cubed ( I only used 16 oz package) Mix together ground beef, tomatoes and seasonings in slow cooker and set aside. Place cheese in a miocrowave safe bowl and melt some. stirring after 3 minutes. Add cheese to ground beef mixture. Cover and briefly cook on low setting until warmed through out. stirring occasionally. Keep warm in slow cooker. I tried this on hot dogs, and as a dip....im sure it would be good on baked potatoes, broccoli, ...etc

Pumpkin Pie

 This recipe is a tried and true recipe, ( not to say the others arent). This is my go to pumpkin pie recipe...But I tried a cooking hint out the a 1957 household guide book...and it make this pumpkin pie out of this world...( I will post tip after recipe)                       Pumpkin Pie What will you need:    A pie plate pastry for one crust pie        For an 8 inch pie 1 egg 1 1/4 cup canned pumpkin or cooked pumpkin 2/3 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves 1 1/4 cup evaporated milk     For a 9 inch pie 2 eggs  1 can ( 16 oz) pumpkin or 2 cups cooked pumpkin 3/4 cup sugar  1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 teaspoon Ground cloves 1 2/3 cup evaporated milk       Heat oven to 425 degrees. Prepare pastry ( pie crust). Beat eggs slightly with hand beater; beat in remaining ingredients. Pour in filling  into prepared pie crust. Place pie into oven and bake for 15 minutes in

Simple Pie Crust

 This is a simple pie crust and easy to make, At least for me...This recipe is from a dessert cookbook I had gotten years ago, Don't the name of the cookbook. What will you need for this recipe:    A pie plate ( something to put the crust into)   2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 2/3 cup shortening 6-7 Tablespoon cold water    Sift together the flour and salt. Divide the shortening in half; cut 1/3 cup shortening into the flour using a pastry blender or using 2 forks till mixture resembles cornmeal. Cut in remaining shortening till pieces are the size of peas.  Sprinkle 1 Tablespoon at a time over the mixture until about to form into a ball of dough .Let dough rest for a few minutes, Then divide dough in half. Flatten slightly on a floured surface and then roll out onto a pie crust , little bigger then your pie dish...roll pie dough onto rolling pin ( half of it) then place pie crust into pie plate. and prick with fork some add filling after pricking with fork or bake at 450
