Prickly Pear Syrup

 Here's a canning recipe using the prickly pear cactus , at least the fruit. I have never made this before . 

What you will need :

 A way to burn off thorns

a pot to put prickly pears in

a knife

cheesecloth

7 cups sugar

jars

waterbath canner

   First thing you need to do is to burn off the thorns off the fruit ( prickly pears). cut them in half and put in pan. Add about 2-3 cups of water. bring this to a boil, until fruit is softened. strain fruit then put juice in pot and add sugar and bring to a boil while stirring to dissolve sugar. boil for about 2 minutes and then put in jars. Wipe rims of jars off and put canning flats and rings on ...finger tight. ...put in water bath can and process for 10 minutes
